Cayman Brac is known for amazing diving. Beautifully colored coral reefs and wrecks provide incredible experiences. One of the most visited sites is a 330 foot Russian Koni class frigate, which is one of only a few sunken Soviet naval vessels in the Western Hemisphere. It is the only one that is accessible for divers of all levels. Other interesting dive sites are Radar Reef, Cemetery Wall, and the Wilderness Wall.

We will be staying at the Brac Reef Beach Resort. The Brac Reef Beach Resort is an all-inclusive getaway located on four and a half acres of sandy beachfront. Coconut palms, lush tropical flowers, sea grape trees with hammocks and lounge chairs scattered along the beach make the resort a premiere destination.

* Airfare is not included. Nonstop flights are available from local airports to Grand Cayman and then Grand Cayman to Cayman Brac (leave a minimum of an hour and a half between flights). A one-hour direct flight from Miami is also available. Resort fees, taxes & gratuities included except for dive gratuities.

Guadalupe Island: Great White Research Expedition

November 3rd – November 8th, 2018

Join us, Fins Attached and the Great Whites as we incorporate a bonafide Shark Research Expedition, Conservation Initiatives and Extreme Diving Adventure. Truly a once in a lifetime experience!

Six-day boat trip with 4 days of cage diving on-board the RV Sharkwater. All meals and beverages are included, diving, and round-trip transfers from San Diego to Ensenada.

Not included:
Airfare to San Diego, hotel nights in San Diego, Port and Park fee, and crew tips. (As of today, 2/3/18, roundtrip direct flights from Newark to San Diego are priced at $449 & 1 Stop flights are at $401 for 11/2 to 11/8. Hotel rates as of today are $181 per room per night with max of 4 people sharing a room. Port & Park fees should be around $80 total per person). Crew tips are suggested at 10% of your fare. They do a great job!

You will need to arrive into San Diego at least the day before trip departure from Ensenada (November 2nd). Pick up will be on the morning on November 3rd from the Holiday Inn Express Old Town, 1955 San Diego Ave, San Diego, CA 92110. Drop off will be back at the Holiday Inn on November 8th. Scheduling return flights before November 9th in not recommended due to the potential for a delay due to weather, border traffic, etc.

Accommodations:
The total charter cost is $48,000 and we have a max occupancy of 12.
Rooms (provided we fill every bed):
1 Master Suite with King bed, sleeps (2) two @ $5,000 / PP DO.
1 Queen bed suite with an additional single bed, sleeps (3) three@ $4,200 / PP TO.
1 Double suite with an additional single bed, sleeps (3) three@ $3,800 / PP TO.
Two 2 single bedrooms that sleep (2) two in each of these rooms@ $3,500 / PP DO.

Great White Sharks are always in the news, and usually not in a good way. This expedition will create a new mindset in you when it comes to how you think about great whites sharks. You will learn why these incredible animals must be protected.

Fins Attached Research
Fins Attached has been involved in the research with great whites includes tagging, tissue sampling, photo ID, tracking movements, and behavior analysis. Guadalupe Island is an important great white shark aggregation site in the eastern Pacific, with over 170 sharks identified. Acoustic tags are being deployed on the sharks to better understand their movements around the island. Be a part of the research to save sharks! You will see first hand the nature of the research and learn about white shark movements and behavior.

The R.P. Resor was built in 1935 by Federal Ship Building Co. in Kearney, New Jersey, she was launched on Saturday, November 13, 1935. She was a 445 foot long, 66 foot wide tanker and was owned by Standard Oil Company ( now Exxon Corp. ) the R.P. Resor was the first vessel built in the United States on the Isherwood Arcform hull design. The Resor was also the first new ship to be fitted with a Contra Guide propeller and rudder, which instead of being symmetrically streamlined is warped. This system claims to add more speed and better maneuverability at the same power. She displaced 7,451 tons and was under the command of Captain Frederick Marcus.

Algol

The Algol was a Navy transport ship that had a long and successful service career from World War II to the Cuban Missile Crisis.  After lying in the mothball fleet at Norfolk for some twenty years, she was transferred to the New Jersey Artificial Reef Program and sunk with little fanfare, unlike the much-hyped ( and not much bigger ) Spiegel Grove in Florida.

San Saba

Saturday, October 27th

Being a hazard to navigation, the iron hulled San Saba was demolished a week after sinking. Today she sits in 80 ft of water in two mangled pieces of wreckage.
