Elite Divers

Current Owner:

Dennis Santos

Dennis

Dennis started out at Elite Divers several years ago as an instructor and brings with him the experience of teaching and working for one of the larger dive houses in New Jersey. As he makes his way to the Master Instructor rating at Elite Divers, he really enjoys the work he does for the Project AWARE Foundation, his regular International Travel and more recently, the Megalodon Shark Tooth diving excursion. Dennis has actually become one of the more respected appraisers of these amazing, multi-million year old fossil shark teeth and maintains some of the rarest, sought after, private collections in the world.  You can find some of his research, exhibits and pieces for sale at www.deep-thinker.com as well as information on the high quality underwater services he provides.  Dennis carries professional certification ratings from PADI, SDI-TDI and is an EFR Instructor as well.

Long Convoluted story, but Dennis purchased Elite Dive Shop from Nick Warden as of January 1st, 2011 and brings great enthusiasm to the table.

Original Owner:

 Nick Warden

Nick

Born in England {yes England, not Australia} Migrated to Canada in 1967, played rugby for many years, hence the ugly knees and nervous twitches!! Moved to the USA in the 70's and established a graphic arts company. Finally in 1987, realizing he was totally color blind, decided the next best thing was to open a dive shop!! Still refuses to sell any SCUBA equipment that is not black. Started his diving career in Manaus, Brazil. Jumped into the Rio Negro with nothing more than a cylinder and primary regulator. Decided upon his return to the States to take a course for certification. Only thing that hasn't changed is his gear. His one lasting ambition? Not to open another dive shop!!!! Nick retired and sold the shop to Dennis Santos on Oct 2010. Nick currently resides in North Carolina and also maintains a home in Cayman Brac. He supports diving expeditions in both places. Son-of-a-Brit Diving

Occasional Help:

Charlie Turback

Charlie

Charlie had been the Store Manager for ages and ages, but retired as of 10/9/07. But just like in the "Godfather" movie; "Just when I thought I was Out, they Pull me back in again..." Charlie has been called back from time to time, to assist with repairs and some other admin duties. He remains a part timer for Elite.

Tech Trainer:

Dan Crowell

danny

Elite Divers is proud to announce a partnership with the legendary Dan Crowell, noted explorer, underwater cinematographer and former captain of the infamous dive charter boat Seeker. As a legend in the dive industry and New Jersey native, Danny epitomizes the phrase Deep Explorer, hence the name of his company. Being involved in countless projects around the world, he still finds time to teach a myriad of technical courses from Extended Range Diving to Closed Circuit Advanced Mixed Gas Rebreather: MK-15/CCR-1000, Kiss, Inspiration & Evolution Diver. Elite Divers currently outsources all its Rebreather Training exclusively to Dan. He also conducts a Discover Rebreather course onsite at Elite Divers every so often. Contact us for more information.

PADI Course Director:

Bob Wilson

bob

Certification & Background: Bob Wilson is a PADI Course Director. His diving career began in 1986. He attained his first Professional PADI rating in 1988. Since then, Bob has been certified to teach fourteen PADI Specialty Diver Courses, including an Advanced Wreck Diver Course he authored himself. Another Professional PADI level Bob holds the coveted Emergency First Responder Trainer rating. Bob is also an Instructor for three other training agencies, which include instructing Oxygen First Aid for DAN, Technical Diving for IANTD and TDI, and Tri-Mix Diver. Relative to the new Tec Rec program now being offered by PADI/DSAT, Bob has achieved the rating of Instructor Trainer for the Tec Deep, the Tec Trimix, and Gas Blender programs.
Bob has extensive experience in North East wreck diving, as well as many other areas of the world. When Trimix diving first became available, Bob sought out training with Billy Deans of Key West Florida. That training has provided the opportunity to explore many deep wrecks in the North East and Florida. Cave diving has also found its way into Bob's career. The caves of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico have been a fascinating experience. Other experience Bob has is being certified as an Emergency Medical Technician. Bob was accepted as an Associate Member of the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society. Bob also currently holds a United States Coast Guard 100 Ton, Near Coastal, Masters License. He works WITH Elite Divers to coordinate the PADI course, but does not work directly FOR Elite Divers.

Angela is a new addition to the Elite staff. The TCNJ History major was certified at Elite in 2006 and has been in love with diving ever since. In the past 5 years, she has dove off the coast of Ft. Lauderdale, the Cayman Islands, Honduras, Bonaire, and worked in Belize introducing SCUBA to young kids. She was certified as a Rescue Diver this past summer and hopes to begin her Divemaster training in the fall. She also loves underwater photography and considers her camera to be as important as her regulator.

Fun fact: Angela's prom dress had a coral reef on it!!
