General: This course is the first step beyond entry level training for the PADI Open Water Diver. There are two levels of training, based on what the student desires to accomplish.
1. Advanced Open Water Diver - Includes Session #1, Session #2, and Session #3. The total for this course is five dives at Dutch Springs. This course is for those divers desiring to complete the full PADI Advanced Open Water course, but without the intention of becoming active in local diving.
2. Advanced Open Water Diver (+) - Designed for those divers whose ultimate goal is to become an active local diver, and to dive in the ocean from local dive charter boats. This course consists of sessions #1, #2, #4, and #5. This course will give you the minimum training necessary to be a safe diver in our local waters. There are 7 dives in this course, 5 at Dutch Springs and 2 in the Ocean. The Ocean dives will be escorted by either an Instructor or a Divemaster.
Prerequisites: PADI Open Water Diver or equivalent, Minimum age 15 Years. Should have completed dives beyond actual training dives.
Class Overview:
Session # 1 (7:00pm-10:00pm): Orientation at Elite Divers For All Levels.
Session #2 (Saturday 12 Noon): Deep Dive, Navigation Dive and Night Dive at Dutch Springs
Session #3 (Sunday 12 Noon): Peak Performance Buoyancy Dive, Search & Recovery Dive at Dutch Springs
Session #4 (Sunday 12 Noon): Same Sunday as Session #3, two simulated ocean dives, use of pony tank, wreck reel, lift bag at Dutch Springs
Session #5: Charter Boat for Boat and Wreck Dives. (Advanced Open Water (+) ). Scheduled by Elite Divers, either Saturdays or Sundays
Gear Required: Mask, Fins, Snorkel, Compass, Wetsuit (farmer john pants, jacket, boots, hood & gloves). Also a BCD, Regulator w/alternate air source & submersible pressure gauge, depth gauge, timing device, 2 tanks, weight belt, underwater light, dive knife, slate and cyalume stick.. For the Advanced Open Water (+) course, a pony tank and regulator, wreck reel and lift bag are required.
Costs You Can Expect: Please call Elite Divers Directly at (973) 586-2214 for Class Fee, which includes all your educational material, and the processing of your certification card. Boat Fees of $90.00 (as of the 2008 season), daily entry into Dutch Springs and incidentals such as transportation, food...and most likely 2 additional tank fills are not included. Wetsuit, hood, weight belt, tanks, BCD & regulator setup (but no timing device) is available for $110 for the entire course. The pony tank, wreck reel, and lift bag can be rented for $25/day.
Students must supply 2 Wallet-Sized Photos for the processing of your Certification card.
Reminder: You will need to sign up in advance ($50 non-refundable deposit). Pick up book and read appropriate chapters. All logistics will be discussed at first meeting. Knowledge reviews will need to be completed and turned into the instructor prior to each dive. If you have your own gear, the instructor will need to verify that it is appropriate for local diving conditions.
